Gospel for Everyday Living

by Annie Yorty
Once we’ve received salvation in Jesus, does the gospel remain in the rearview mirror? Or do we continue to need the gospel for everyday living?
Great is thy faithfulness O God my father
There is no shadow of turning with Thee
In a meeting room on the other side of the world, my voice joined a medley of several languages all singing the universally loved song, Great Is Thy Faithfulness by John Chisholm. Refugees from Russia and Ukraine, English speaking expatriates and visitors, and Republic of Georgia natives all sang. Some with gusto, some wistfully. Others, choked by emotion, merely mouthed the words that beautifully echo the tenets of the gospel.
After Jesus resurrected from the dead and before He ascended into heaven, He focused our attention and our mission on the gospel.
And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. (Mark 16:15-16 NLT)
Spreading the Good News
I went to the Republic of Georgia to share the gospel with people who didn’t yet know Jesus. Along the way, I found believers with strong faith in God who also needed the gospel.
- A pastor who narrowly escaped imprisonment for expressing his faith, along with his wife and young son
- A creative fifteen-year-old who left Russia with her family carrying nothing but the clothes on her back
- A man barely out of high school whose conscience wouldn’t allow him to fight in the war against Ukraine
- A retiree who fled when a draft notice came, but his wife refused to accompany him
- A mother who ran from Russia in the last days of pregnancy and gave birth to her child in a foreign land among strangers
- A Georgian musician discouraged by lack of acceptance from his church
Though they knew Jesus, dire circumstances had battered their trust. They needed reminders of His faithfulness found in the gospel message.
How could the gospel of Jesus help them?
Gospel Lyrics
Words from the hymn we raised to God that day remind us how the gospel leads, guides, and comforts us in the ups and downs of everyday life.
O God my father
If you are covered in Christ’s righteousness, God accepts you into His family as a dearly loved child. You belong at home with Him.
There is no shadow of turning with Thee
God is an unchanging, dependable Rock of truth that anchors our souls in a turbulent world.
Thy compassions, they fail not
God feels sympathy for our daily troubles, and He intervenes to help us.
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me
God’s promises are personal for you. You can stake your life on them.
Morning by morning new mercies I see
Because of the sacrifice of Jesus, God pours out mercy beyond measure on us. Each day brings a fresh supply. Out of this abundance, we offer mercy to others.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
God owns all the resources, both physical and spiritual, on earth and in heaven. We can depend on Him, rather than ourselves, to provide all we need.
Love
Because God is love, His love toward us doesn’t depend on our behavior. Long ago, Christ sacrificially died for us while all people were sinning against Him. Today, His love is constant regardless of our deeds—good or bad. His Spirit pours this same love into us so we can love others sacrificially and unconditionally too.
Pardon for sin
Each day Jesus invites us to come and be washed clean from the stain of daily sin. He also enables us to forgive and bear with the sins of others as He works out His will in their lives.
Peace that endureth
Just as our hearts pump blood throughout our physical bodies, God’s Spirit floods our hearts and minds with the peace of Christ Jesus. His peace erases doubts and instills a settled confidence in His power and love in ever-changing circumstances.
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide
The gospel of Jesus allows us to live daily in the presence of God. He dwells within us. As we yield to His Spirit, His light shines His glorious gospel into a dark world.
Strength for today
“By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life” (2 Peter 1:3 NLT). In Him, we gain courage to share truth with our words and deeds.
Bright hope for tomorrow
Our eternal destiny is sealed in Christ Jesus. We don’t need to fear death, earthly powers, or troubles because we know we will spend eternity with Christ.
Blessings all mine and ten thousand beside
God never leaves or forsakes us. In His presence, blessings abound.

The Apostle Paul wrote about what I call the circle of encouragement.
For I long to visit you so I can bring you some spiritual gift that will help you grow strong in the Lord. When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours. (Romans 1:11-12 NLT)
My team shared the gospel with the hurting people we met in the Republic of Georgia. Our stories of God’s faithfulness in heart-wrenching, impossible situations bolstered their faith. When we swapped examples of how God applies the gospel to our everyday lives, we all received strength and hope.
What situation in your life needs a fresh application of the gospel of Jesus Christ?
Has a troubled relationship discouraged you? Are current events weighing heavy on your heart? Has love in your marriage grown cold? Perhaps a chronic illness has sapped your will to live. Or a child has become distant. Maybe you’re just plain weary from the everyday cares of life.
Friends, listen to Great Is Thy Faithfulness and pay close attention to the good news embedded in its lyrics. The gospel that opened the door to life in Christ continues to transform our hearts to thrive every day until God calls us to our eternal home.

Ms Yorty,
Please let me preface my remarks, with I have always and continue to enjoy you letters and posts!🙂 My only request/sugestion would be, could you possibly change the font to a larger size, as sometimes one must continually enlarge/expand the print in your posts. (Example: fonts used int 2nd paragraph under the heading “Spreading The Good News”. I’ll understand if my request is beyond your or your staff’s control, as it just a suggestion.
Thank you for your articles and posts!
Please have a blessed day.🙏🙂
Kindest regards,

Thank you very much for your kind words and your feedback. We have investigated and see the problem with small print occurs on some mobile devices. We’ll be mindful of this problem in the future. God bless!

Annie, I applaud your decision to travel across the world with the gospel. Great is Thy Faithfulness is one of my favorite hymns. I wish we sang them more in our churches today.
