Altars of Abortion
by Annie Yorty ©2022
Recently, I wrote Abortion, America’s National Sin. Please read it to see why God abhors abortion. In that blog, I noted some of the gods of this world that demand the sacrifice of our children. But God offers a path to freedom from worship at the altars of abortion. His Son, Jesus, “understands our weaknesses” because He encountered the same temptations we experience (Hebrews 4:15 NLT).
The poem “Altars” draws attention to the various altars of abortion. The imagery will no doubt disturb you. I used it because while some understand the truth of what happens during an abortion, others are confused by conflicting messages. I also included footnotes to news articles so you can read for yourself what is happening, pray, share information with friends, and use your influence to change hearts and minds about abortion.
There is hope for our country if we humble ourselves and pray.
There is hope for any individual who has engaged in sacrificing on the altars of abortion in any way. Share on XMoreover, there is hope for any individual who has engaged in sacrificing on these altars in any way. I know, because I have personally witnessed healing after abortion. If you have already repented and trusted God, know that you are fully forgiven and guilt-free. Please do not pick up the mantle of condemnation ever again (Romans 8:1). If you are struggling with this, please reach out to me. I commit to praying and encouraging you to walk in freedom that comes from truth.
So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most (Hebrews 4:16 NLT).
Altars
High on the altar of Science1,2
Lie beating hearts, organs, stem cells
Harvested alive
For testing to rescue their elders.
God help us all!
High on the altar of Economy3
Lie tiny brains, skulls, spinal cords
Pierced and severed
Stealing future innovation.
God help us all!
High on the altar of Convenience4
Lie grasping fingers, wiggling toes
Suctioned and torn
Sacrificed life for better timing.
God help us all!
High on the altar of Freedom5
Lie twisted faces, mouths open
Silently screaming
Deserving of welcome, love, nurture.
God help us all!
High on the altar of Deception6
Lie translucent tissues and skin
Scorched by chemicals
Justified as better not to live.
God help us all!
High on the altar of Power7,8
Lie detached arms, legs, hands, and feet
Once waving, stretching
Innocents unprotected by law.
God help us all!
High on the altar of Arrogance9,10
Lies a newborn surviving babe
Squalling and pleading
Judged refuse by arbiters of life.
God help us all!
High on the altar of Self11
Lies a crimson sea, their lifeblood
Spreading, flooding
Sixty-three million deemed less worthy.
God help us all!
High on a Roman cross12
Hung Jesus, perfect Son of God
Sacrificed to death
Rescued us so we may now choose life.
God save us all!
